Bartender of the Year Competition

Australian bar awards 2008 finalists announced!

The quest to find Australia’s top bartender is now under way! Bartender magazine’s Bartender of the Year Competition is the most challenging bartending event in Australia. We test all facets of the bartending craft to ensure that our winner is worthy of the title.

It is also with great pleasure that Bartender magazine can announce that Club Suntory has come on board as the official sponsor for the 2008 Bartender magazine Bartender of the Year Competition yet again! This is a great partnership for the event, as the focus of Club Suntory is to support the bartending fraternity.

Bartender of the Year Judges

Bartender of the Year

It’s time to dust up on your knowledge, flex those bartending biceps, polish your shakers and do whatever it takes to get yourself ready for the competition of the year. Here are a couple of handy hints:

* Getting Prepared for the Bartender of the Year Competition *

  • Get reading: While knowledge isn’t the be all and end of the bartending trade, you have to score highly in the written test to show off your other skills.

  • Be prepared: Don’t leave your study or  your cocktails for the final round till the last minute. Everyone gets nervous, but you can save a lot of stress with just a little preparation.

  • Get drinking (responsibly): Sharpen your palate by tasting everything in sight. Last year we introduced a blind tasting round which threw a few competitors. You will need to know your Jamaican from your Martinique, Cognac from your Armagnac and your whisky from your whiskey.

  • Dress snappy: Should you make it to the final 10, you will need to be well presented. If you feel good about the way you look you will be more confident and look more professional too

  • Be precise: Attention to detail will seperate the wheat from the chaff. Work on your technique; efficiency is a winning combination of speed and precision.
