Gary Regan
the world renowned drinks writer, direct from New York City, is headlining Sydney BarShow 08 as Bartender magazine’s Special International Guest Speaker!

Apart from an honourable stint as a bartender, Gary Regan is responsible for such books as The Bartenders Bible and The Joy of Mixology. He has also contributed to many publications; writing drinks columns for The San Francisco Chronicle, The Malt Advocate, and The Wine Enthusiast, to mention a few. Gary also regularly appears in our very own Bartender magazine his Cocktailian page. It is with great pleasure (and more than a little excitement) that we can welcome him to our shores in September for another fantastic BarShow.

Peter Dorelli
PETER DORELLI IS A HIGHLY RESPECTED INDUSTRY MENTOR WITH A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE TO SHARE WITH THE NEXT GENERATION OF BARTENDERS.

Peter got his break in the industry with the Savoy Company - initially opening the Pebble Bar at Stones Chop House in 1965 and then moving on to the American Bar at the Savoy Hotel in London, where he would become Bar Manager and spend 40 years mastering the craft of bartending. Peter has been an active and humble industry leader over many years. This has included his time as President of the UK Bartenders Guild. Now in supposed retirement, Peter continues his role as Education Secretary of the UK Bartenders Guild and works on selected projects to drive the bar and drinks industry forward.

 

Dale DeGroff
DALE DEGROFF IS A LEADING AUTHORITY AND POPULAR PERSONALITY IN THE INDUSTRY, MASTER MIXOLOGIST DALE DEGROFF (AKA "KING COCKTAIL" CREATES AWARD-WINNING COCKTAIL MENUS AND PROVIDES BEVERAGE CONSULTING TO RESTAURANTS AND HOTELS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

As Beverage Manager at New York City's famous Rainbow Room from 1987 to 1999, he pioneered a gourmet approach to recreating the great classic cocktails, reinventing the profession of bartending and setting off a cocktail explosion throughout the world. DeGroff has also invented hundreds of his own original drinks. His popular book, “The Craft of The Cocktail”, winner of the IACP Julia Child Award, has been hailed by Men's Journal as the "look-here-first, look-here-last primer on drink mixing."

Think Spirits have announced that Julio, along with Phil Bayley of the famous Cafe Pacifico, will launch Partida Tequila in Australia at Bar Show and will present Partida at the Think Spirits stand running tutorials both days. Julio is of the famous Tommy's Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco awarded the No. 14 Best Bar in the World award by Bartender Magazine 08. Tommy's is the home and creator of the famous "Tommy’s Margarita" using agave syrup.

 

Simon Ford
SIMON FORD CURRENTLY WORKS IN THE CAPACITY OF INTERNATIONAL AMBASSADOR FOR PLYMOUTH GIN (AND IF YOU'VE HEARD OF ONE, YOU'VE MOST LIKELY HEARD OF THE OTHER).

Over the past six years, this role has taken him across the globe, training the experts and first-time barkeeps alike; more than 15 years in the spirits industry has granted him with experiences relevant to all. Ryan Magarian
RYAN MAGARIAN OVERSEES THE DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS OF LIQUID RELATIONS AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE ONGOING DEVELOPMENT OF AVIATION GIN, HIS PARTNERSHIP WITH PORTLAND, OREGON’S HOUSE SPIRITS.

Always pushing for consistency and innovation, Ryan has a singularly unique and purely recognisable approach to his craft that allows for a balance of creative and richly flavoured cocktails, consistent drink production, speed, and well-honed technique. In his years “behind the stick” and on the consulting front, he has received a nomination as Best Bartender in the city of Portland (Citysearch; 2000), was named Best Bartender in Seattle (Seattle Magazine; 2002), received a coveted Tastemaker Award (Food and Wine Magazine; 2004) and most recently, was tapped as Seattle’s Best Mixologist (Seattle Weekly; 2005). Philip Duff
PHILIP DUFF IS A LEADING FIGURE IN BARTENDER TRAINING WORLDWIDE, AWARD WINNING MIXOLOGIST, TRAINER AND BAR CONSULTANT.

He has been in the business for almost 20 years. Starting as a bartender in his native Ireland at the tender age of 15(!), Philip moved on to bartend, manage and train bars in London, New York, the Cayman Islands and the Netherlands, his home since 1995. Philip has won and placed in national and world-level bar and cocktail championships and received awards for his contributions to bartending and cocktail culture from bartender institutions the FBA, IBA and Universidad del Cocktail (Argentina). Philip was a key figure in the design and realisation of the House of Bols and Bols Bartending Academy in Amsterdam, having been Bols' Global Brand Ambassador since designing and launching Bols' training programmes in Osaka in 1999.

 

Jacob Briars
JACOB BRIARS GREW UP WANTING TO BE A POLITICIAN, OR FAILING THAT, AN OVERPAID LAWYER. BY A STRANGE TWIST OF FATE, AND A CHANCE MEETING WITH 42 BELOW FOUNDER GEOFF ROSS, HE ENDED UP TRAVELING THE WORLD MAKING DRINKS, TALKING ABOUT DRINKS, AND IMBIBING DRINKS, OFTEN ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

After stints running leading New Zealand cocktail bars (not an oxymoron....) Matterhorn and Motel, he has spent the last few years criss-crossing the globe as the training bartenders, mixing drinks, sniffing spirits, and explaining to Americans just where (and what) New Zealand is. In his role as the 42 Below Vodka Professor he gets a chance to share his passion for cocktails, spirits and trying to get bar staff to use less sugar in their drinks, from Marrakech to  If he wasn't making drinks and packing his bags he'd be on a beach in Brazil with Naren Young, and his favourite words are 'what are we having next?'

JOE FEE A GRADUATE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME, IS PART OWNER AND SALES MANAGER OF FEE BROTHERS, A FOURTH GENERATION FAMILY BUSINESS BASED IN ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.

Think Spirits have announced that Joe Fee will launch Rhubarb Bitters at Sydney BarShow, the newest addition the Bitters range, and will present Fee Brothers at BarShow 2008 at the Think Spirits stand running tutorials both days.

John has been at the leading edge of London’s dynamic and fast-changing bar and club scene for over 10 years. He was appointed general manager at the renowned London Academy of Bartenders (LAB) in 2001. Whilst securing LAB’s reputation at the forefront of London mixology, John founded event and drinks consultancy Bartotal.
Created to offer premium brands support in bar design, spirit selection, menu creation and event management. John was quickly offered the role of brand ambassador for Sagatiba. As further evidence of John’s international reach and renown, he was nominated for 2008 Best Brand Ambassador at the 2008 Spirit Awards in New Orleans’ Tales of the Cocktail.

Mr Angus Winchester is a drinks expert with an encyclopaedic knowledge of drinks, their recipes and the myths surrounding them. He’s a regular contributor to Australian Bartender magazine as well as other international industry publications, has a successful drinks consultancy called Alconomics, heads up the award winning Trailer Happiness in London and is the founder of the London branch of the Rum Club . He is now Tanqueray no.TEN Global Ambassador and leader of the Tanqueray Guild. A natural and entertaining trainer, he encourages recognition for bartending as theatre and bartenders as professionals. Don’t miss out on seeing him in action at the show!

Magally Franco
MAGALLY FRANCO, THE GLOBAL BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR CAZADORES WILL BE APPEARING AT SYDNEY BARSHOW 08 TO SHOWCASE THE RECENTLY LAUNCHED CAZADORES TEQUILA.

Magally’s passion for mixology and dedication to her craft has won her recognition at countless award ceremonies, where she has won and been nominated for several best bartender trophies.
 
Cazadores is part of Magally’s home life in Mexico and has been for as long as she can remember. ALFREDO ANDRÉS PINO, MASTER CIGAR ROLLER DIRECT FROM CUBA.

Alfredo Andrés Pino was born in Havana, Cuba in October 1964. Pino, passionate about cigars, joined the H. Upmann factory as a cigar roller in December 2001 where he rapidly improved his cigar rolling to attain the maximum level for the trade of ‘9th grade’.
 
Two years ago, he rolled cigars in London at La Casa del Habano at Floridita Restaurant for three months while there he provided two master demonstrations for Hunters and Frankau – Habanos S.A. distributor in the UK. In 2006 Pino visited the Caribbean Island of Saint Barthelemy where he was awarded a certificate of excellence for his skills and in 2007 he was particularly busy travelling to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Macau, Philippines, Korea and Malaysia. The Sydney BarShow will be Pino’s first Australian demonstration.
